Alfred Nobel

Swedish chemist and engineer Alfred Bernhard Nobel invented dynamite in 1866 and bequeathed his fortune to institute the Nobel Prizes.

The Nobel Foundation annually awards these international prizes for outstanding achievements in the fields of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, and economics and for the promotion of world peace.

This innovator manufactured armaments.

From previous role as primarily an iron and steel producer, Nobel redirected Bofors to a major manufacturer of cannon and other armaments and also owned it. Nobel held 355 different most famous patents. He read a premature obituary, which condemned him for profiting from the sales of arms. People named the synthetic element nobelium. His name also survives in modern-day companies, such as Dynamit Nobel and AkzoNobel, which descendants of mergers with companies that he established.
