Alfred Nobel

Swedish chemist and engineer Alfred Bernhard Nobel invented dynamite in 1866 and bequeathed his fortune to institute the Nobel Prizes.

The Nobel Foundation annually awards these international prizes for outstanding achievements in the fields of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, and economics and for the promotion of world peace.

From previous role as primarily an iron and steel producer, Nobel redirected Bofors to a major manufacturer of cannon and other armaments and also owned it.
