Bryan Gruley's new novel, PURGATORY BAY, will be published January 14, 2020, by Thomas & Mercer. It's the story of a young woman who had life licked--straight-A student, all-state soccer goalie, headed to Princeton--when her family was murdered in an apparent mob hit. Twelve years later, she lives in a fortress on Purgatory Bay near Bleak Harbor, plotting revenge on those she holds responsible for ruining her life.

Michael Connelly says PURGATORY BAY is "impossible to put down." NYT bestseller Andrew Gross calls it "a gripping contemporary story of revenge, with scenes accelerating like heartbeats from the grave to its emotional, pulse-pounding conclusion." Amazon and NYT bestseller T.R. Ragan says it's a "suspenseful and complex adventure filled with fascinating characters ... an exciting read with a satisfying ending!"

Gillian Flynn says Bleak Harbor is “an electric bolt of suspense, packed with twists and surprises,” and “a masterful follow-up to his Starvation Lake trilogy.” Steve Hamilton calls it “unlike any other crime novel I’ve ever read.” Robert Dugoni says Bleak Harbor’s “fascinating calamity of flawed characters … brilliantly exposes the decidedly dark underbelly of both the town and all those living in it. I dare you to put the book down. I couldn’t.”

Gruley is the Amazon Charts bestselling writer of Bleak Harbor, which Gillian Flynn called "an electric bolt of suspense, packed with twists and surprises." He's also the author of the award-winning Starvation Lake trilogy: Starvation Lake, The Hanging Tree, and The Skeleton Box. He’s a lifelong journalist who shared in The Wall Street Journal’s Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He continues to writes long-form narratives for Bloomberg Businessweek magazine.

The Detroit native and graduate of the University of Notre Dame lives with his wife, Pam, in Chicago, where he enjoys playing hockey and guitar and having a beer or two with his buddies.

“But on the night I changed his life, I sat with my feet up and a beer in my hand and decided that if something could make me feel this good for even one night, and it didn't hurt anyone who didn't deserve to be hurt, maybe it was something I could actually do, something I might actually be good at, something that might actually make somebody proud of me.”
