Christopher K. Stone, M.D., is the younger son of the late poet and philanthropist Donna J. Stone, and editor of both editions of
Wielder of Words: A Collection of Poems
. In addition, Dr. Stone is credited with having written the poem from which the book's title and epigraph were taken. The collection was well-received in the poetry community, and was awarded the American Poetry Society's 1991 Book of the Year.
Dr. Stone did his medical training at Southwestern and Columbia. After his mother's death, he continued many of her philanthropic pursuits, including serving as chairman of the Matthew J. Pascal Foundation, a private family foundation named after his older brother. In cooperation with American Mothers, Inc., Dr. Stone established the Donna J. Stone National Literary Awards in his mother's honor.
