Cole Porter

Cole Albert Porter was an American composer and songwriter from Peru, Indiana. His works include the musical comedies Kiss Me, Kate (1948) (based on Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew), Fifty Million Frenchmen, and Anything Goes, as well as songs like "Night and Day", "I Get a Kick out of You", and "I've Got You Under My Skin". He was noted for his sophisticated (sometimes ribald) lyrics, clever rhymes, and complex forms. He was one of the greatest contributors to the Great American Songbook.

“Every time I look down on this timeless townWhether blue or gray be her skies.Whether loud be her cheers or soft be her tears,More and more do I realize:I love Paris in the springtime.I love Paris in the fall.I love Paris in the winter when it drizzles,I love Paris in the summer when it sizzles.I love Paris every moment,Every moment of the year.I love Paris, why, oh why do I love Paris?Because my love is near.”
