Dee Lestari, is one of the bestselling and critically acclaimed writers in Indonesia.
Born in January 20, 1976, she began her debut with a serial novel: Supernova in 2001. Supernova’s first episode, Kesatria, Putri, dan Bintang Jatuh (The Knight, The Princess, and The Falling Star), was sold phenomenally, achieving a cult status among Indonesian young readers. She has published four other episodes: Akar (The Root), Petir (The Lightning), Partikel(The Particle), and Gelombang (The Wave).
Aside of the Supernova series, Dee has also published a novel titled Perahu Kertas (Paper Boat), and three anthologies: Filosofi Kopi (Coffee’s Philosophy), Madre, and Rectoverso — a unique hybrid of music and literature.
Dee also has an extensive music career, producing four albums with her former vocal trio, and two solo albums. She has been writing songs for renowned Indonesian artists.
Perahu Kertas (Paper Boat) was turned into a movie in 2009, marking Dee’s debut as a screenplay writer. The movie became one of the national's block busters. Following the same path, Madre, Filosofi Kopi, Madre, and Supernova KPBJ, were made into movies.
In February 2016, Dee released the final episode of Supernova, Inteligensi Embun Pagi (Intelligence of the Morning Dew). All Dee’s books are published by Bentang Pustaka.
