Evelyn Deshane aka Evelyn Francis aka Emily James Ray.

---

I’m Evelyn Deshane, although the first book was published under the name emily james ray. I’m a twenty-four year old graduate student working on a Master Thesis in Public Texts with a focus on transgender narratives. I wrote The Dove Keeper when I was eighteen, then tried to forget about it, only to come back later on and realize it was still being read. Though my work now mostly focuses on my thesis research and then obtaining PhD, I still love these characters immensely and wrote the sequel The Rainbow in the winter of 2012. I’m neurotic and overly sentimental. (from http://thedovekeeper.com/about)

“My dove – I’m not good with words, and you know that, but there are a few things you need to have written down to remember. One is that you are free now. You can fly - you just have to make it happen for yourself. The other is that no matter what people tell you, no matter what happens to you when I’m not around, just remember that art can save lives. And you, Frank, are a work of art. Thank you. - Your keeper”

“I was a masterpiece; a painting in itself. He was changing me, molding me, and making me into something brand new. I was a blank canvas when I came to him, ready to absorb all the paint he would slather on me. He kept going, adding layer upon layer, sometimes even shedding them just so I could turn out beautiful. And he was done now, ready to let me leave and display me on a wall for people to see.”
