Friedrich Hecker

German Republican revolutionary and anti-clerical activist. Hecker was one of the most popular public speakers during the German revolution in 1848.

After the revolution Hecker retired in Switzerland and later moved to the United States. Where he became a farmer and later served as a colonel in the Union army during the civil war.

In 1881 he died on his farm in Summerfield, Illinois
