Idi Amin

Ugandan soldier and statesman Idi Amin Dada from 1971 ruled as a dictator until a coup d'état

deposed him, and his brutal and repressive regime ended in 1979; he then fled the country.

In 1946, Amin entered the British colonial Army. In 1954, people promoted him to warrant officer, the highest rank that a black African ably reached.

Amin staged and seized power in office in 1971. An armed struggle forced Idi Amin into exile in 1979.

In 1989, he tried to return, but people forced him to go back in exile.
