About the author

One of America’s most accomplished family physicians, James Lenhart has served as a practicing physician, medical educator and healthcare administrator for over three decades; he now also hosts Dr. Jim’s Healthline Today for KSNV NBC television Las Vegas, which reaches inter-mountain markets of over 3 million viewers.

Driven by his passion to promote health is a human right, Lenhart began writing Conversations for Paco in 2007. Although a work of fiction, Lenhart’s novel is founded on fact and was inspired by a true story as well as real life characters gathered from over 30 years of patient care, health care experiences and academic medical center rituals. Two parts social criticism, one part medical suspense, Conversations for Paco chronicles the gut wrenching tale of Paco Sánchez and his wife Sarita as they desperately seek answers to Paco’s perplexing illness.

Born and raised in Helena, Montana, Dr. Lenhart received his early education from the University of Montana. He graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, took residency in Family Medicine at Brown University, and completed an academic medicine fellowship at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Most recently he earned a Master’s of Public Health from the University of Liverpool, England where he researched the social determinants of health and health policy.

Lenhart holds the distinction of Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians and in 2007 was named Nevada’s outstanding family doctor. In addition to many years in the private practice of medicine, Lenhart has held academic positions as professor of family medicine at the University of Nevada and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He served as vice chancellor for Health Sciences in the Nevada System of Higher Education from 2007-2009. For his contributions to the advancement of Hispanic cultures, Dr. Lenhart was selected to The Latino American Who’s Who in 2011.

Lenhart is married to his beloved wife, Nancy, and is the father of two children.
