John Christopher Depp II is a three-time Academy Award-nominated, Golden Globe- and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning American actor, best known for his frequent portrayals of offbeat and eccentric characters such as Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Ichabod Crane in the film adaptation of Sleepy Hollow.
He has collaborated with director and close friend Tim Burton prolifically in films such as Edward Scissorhands (1990), Ed Wood (1994), Sleepy Hollow (1996), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Corpse Bride (2005), and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007). Depp has also garnered acclaim for his portrayals of real life figures such as Edward Wood Jr., Joseph Pistone and George Jung. Films featuring Depp have grossed over $2.2 billion at the United States box office and over $4.7 billion worldwide.[2]
Depp is widely known for his avoidance of the Hollywood celebrity scene despite his high profile A-list status and chooses to live in France with his partner, French singer and actress Vanessa Paradis when not filming.
