Although he'd been writing professionally for more than 25 years, it was a family tragedy that propelled Joseph M. Hanneman into writing his first book. Helping care for his father during three years of illness provided the motivation and story behind The Journey Home: My Father's Story of Cancer, Faith and Life-Changing Miracles.

Many things along his father's final journey hinted that this was a story meant to be shared. But it was an encounter with a Catholic nun at a hospice center that convinced Hanneman the time had come to write this story.

Prior to to writing The Journey Home in 2009 and 2010, Hanneman spent his entire career in writing and communications jobs. After eight years as a newspaper reporter in Madison and Racine, Wis., he spent eight years writing and editing a magazine at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. After five years in a marketing agency, Hanneman founded his own consultant business, Strategis One LLC.

“This is the story of how Dad lived with his lung cancer. But it is much more. Through his illness and the miracles we experienced, I came to see that Dad's was not just a journey. It was a journey home. Home to God. ”
