King Edward III of England

The beginning of the war of hundred years, epidemics of the Black Death, and the emergence of the Commons as a powerful arm of Parliament marked reign of Edward III, king of England from 1327.

Flemish political leader Jacob van Artevelde, the brewer of Ghent, maintained the neutrality during hostilities with England and encouraged Edward to claim the French throne.

After the disastrous and unorthodox Edward II, his father, this noted lord of Ireland from January 1327 succeeded militarily and restored royal authority.
