Kirk DeMatas

Kirk DeMatas is a Toronto-based poet and the author of poetry collections Wordspeak (2008) and Conversations with Skeletons (2012). To bring his ideas to life, DeMatas has collaborated on multi-disciplinary projects with creatives across the artistic spectrum.

In 2005, DeMatas began performing his poetry in Toronto’s open mic scene, which led to his creating his first collection, Wordspeak. He has been featured at multiple events across the city and on television (Toronto’s Talent, Rogers). In 2010, he collaborated with Simone Maurice on the “No H8” poetry short series.

DeMatas’s second collection, Conversations with Skeletons, served as an outlet for him to confront personal demons. In 2014, he collaborated with Scott Taylor on the limited release single "Cloud Covers."

In 2022, DeMatas recorded and released Conversations with Skeletons - The EP and “The Jaws of Temptation – Remix” single accompanied by three music videos.
