Over the past 6 years I have been immersed in the field of massage therapy. My specialty is Trigger Point Release Therapy. Even when I first learned about them I could always 'find' them!

The science of fascia (the connective tissue matrix of the body) has always held me captive. The science of trigger points and how they create pain in the body always drew me to research and learn all that I could. The two sciences are intrinsically connected.

In 2003, after working exclusively on nationally touring musicians, a woman was referred to me who ended up hiring me exclusively as her therapist. Forty two years old and plagued with a plethora of stress related symptoms, some of her diagnosis just did not resonate. So, I began to trial approaches etched in my analytical mind. This led me to developing a technique I have since entitled the "Spencer Relief Technique" (SRT). SRT will move to the copyright and trademark process this month. After 8 months of working with CB all of her symptoms disappeared. Her fascia was no longer restricted. Her chronic migraines were gone in tandem with her chronic back pain. I then took my technique to the masses.

Well, here it is five years later and, the technique works quite effectively on people afflicted with Rheumatoid Arthritis, as well as anything that creates pain systemically. Although in the case of RA, nothing can be done for the deterioration of the joints, but something can be done to eliminate the pain. The theory is that with pain comes inflammation. If you eliminate the pain, arrest the inflammation through a program of removing the build-up in the muscle tissue (i.e. TP's), change behaviors that perpetuate pain states, and maintain hydration, the body can focus on healing.

7 Best Kept Secrets to Painless Aging is a transcription of how I educate my patient population.

I am currently employed by Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Physician Group in the Center for Integrative Medicine, and have previously contracted with them in home Hospice.

I maintain two private practices; one in the Chicago Board of Trade. I am an adjunct instructor at Northwestern Business College where I teach Contemporary Health Issues.

My experiences have been wide and varied in populations ranging from professional athletes, to professional musicians to surgeons to fireman!

I also studied hands~on energy healing in Norway, as well as holistic medicinals in El Salvador.

I have a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from DePaul University. I obtained my massage diploma from the leader in national clinical massage therapy education: the Soma Institute. I recently fulfilled 17 continuing education units from Harvard Medical School, where I attended the first of its kind international conference on Fascia Research.

In the not so distant future I will begin quantifying my technique's results in an ongoing effort to demystify pain, more specifically Myofascial Trigger Point Pain. The medical community is still very new to this particular syndrome. Here's hoping that changes!

“If you live each moment in heart, love, will fill your world. It cannot be seen, only felt and, is by far the greatest gift. So, dance as if no one is watching. Love, as if it were your last day. Be comfortably immersed in the stillness, so you can always be authentic. Smile and be kind. The world will unfold in presents that reach to touch the depth of other's souls. lls”
