Mark Mortensen graduated from high school in historic Concord, Massachusetts not far from the Old North Bridge where on April 19, 1775 the "Shot Heard ‘Round the World" was fired killing the first British Redcoat and the Revolutionary War was on. It was however through his grandfather and family patriarch that he received full patriotism. He was honored to write the biography of his grandfather’s WWI battalion commander Marine Corps Major George W. Hamilton.
Col. William V. H. White USMC (Ret) stated: “Mortensen has performed a great service to the Marine Corps and to World War I scholars by telling the story of this exceptional Marine. Hamilton, who has been relatively forgotten, was, by any definition, one of the true “Giants of the Corps”.
Mortensen, a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, School of Business, currently resides with his wife in Summerfield, North Carolina.
“A nation that fails to recognize and appreciate history is destined for decay.”
