I'm a new author on the scene, with one published book and three more on the go. I am attending Ryerson University in Toronto Ontario for Geographic Analysis. I started writing from the age of 8. Sadly my English teacher said that I have horrible writing skills and that I should never pick up a pen again. So being 8 I took her word as divine law and was depressed about the whole thing for many years. Then at the age of 18 while working on the golf course I was suddenly hit by inspiration. Yet I still would not have written the idea down if it had not been for my friend at the time who pushed me to write it. So I vigorously wrote this small novella(first part of a series) and edited away at it. Two years later (remember just started and still have low self confidence) and with the help of my girlfriend editing I finished. Quite proud of my accomplishment I went on to continue writing more stories and have another one ready to go.
