Born near the Everglades,I started my education in Catholic schools, and finished it up on the open road and in big city newsrooms. I was a reporter at the San Francisco Chronicle for 22 years. My new novel, the mystery, "Deadlines," is based on a front-page investigative series I did there. I have one other novel to my credit, "The Search for Goodbye-To-Rains," and a non-fiction travelogue, "Wild Places.""

“Maybe it's wrong-footed trying to fit people into the world, rather than trying to make the world a better place for people.[as quoted in "Brain Gain" by Margaret Talbot, The New Yorker, 4/27/09 issue]”
