What happens when one particularly nasty character in an author’s life shows up as a fictional character in one of his or her novels?

“Why you just make her nastier” says Sharon A. Crawford, author of the Beyond mystery series and the memoir The Enemies Within Us. “And change her name, of course.” Sharon did much more with Sister Olsen in Beyond Faith.

And there is a connection between my memoir and Beyond Faith - a nasty nun. Both PI Dana Bowman my main Beyond books' character and I had a nun who bullied us in grade school. My tormenting nun did a lot worse than Dana's. But in Beyond Faith Dana has the opportunity to confront her nasty nun as an adult, something I never did.

The Enemies Within Us - a Memoir us about growing up an only child of elderly parents in the 1950s and 1960s when your beloved Daddy gets cancer. You are only 10 when this happens and your parents lie to you about it. Add to that being bullied by your best friend and a nun teacher at your grade school. I am still writing the Beyond mystery books, the with a fourth one Beyond Truth in the works. The other three: Beyond Faith (Blue Denim Press, Fall 2017), Beyond Blood (Blue Denim Press, fall 2014), short story collection Beyond the Tripping Point (Blue Denim Press 2012) are still available at the usual online places as well as in some Ontario, Canada libraries.

Now with these nuns running around in my head, I now do a presentation about it - sometimes with Dana and sometimes not. The presentation is called When Fact and Fiction Collide and the premise goes something like this:
