“Isabella Swan?- e olhou-me através das pestanas extremamente longas, com um olhar doirado suave, mas de algum modo ainda incandescente.-Prometo amar-te para sempre, todos os dias da eternidade. Aceitas casar comigo?Havia muitas coisas que gostava de lhe dizer, muitas delas pouco simpáticas e outras tão lamechas e românticas que ele provavelmente nem sequer sonhara que eu seria capaz de as dizer. Em vez de me envergonhar com qualquer uma, murmurei:- Sim”

“We value the individual. We probably put too much emphasis on the individual, if it comes right down to it. How many people, in the abstract, would...let's say Paige....how many people would she sacrifice to keep Andy alive? The answer wouldn't make any sense if you were looking at the whole of humanity as equals.”

“I tensed, waiting for the fury - both his and mine - but it was only quiet and calm in the darkness of his room. I could almost taste the sweetness of reunion in the air, a separate fragrance from the perfume of his breath; the emptiness when we were apart left its own bitter aftertaste, something I didn't consciously notice until it was removed. There was no friction in the space between us. The stillness was peaceful - not like the calm before the tempest, but like a clear night untouched by even the dream of a storm.”

“His familiar husky voice sent a wave of wistfulness through me. A thousand memories spun in my head, tangling together- a rocky beach strewn with driftwood trees, a garage made of plastic sheds, warm sodas in a paper bag, a tiny room with one too-small shabby loveseat. The laughter in his deep-set black eyes, the feverish heat of his big hand around mine, the flash of his white teeth against his dark skin, his face stretching into the wide smile that had always been like a key to a secret door where only kindred spirits could enter. It felt sort of like homesickness, this longing for the place and person who had sheltered me through my darkest night.”
