Turgut Uyar (1927-1985) Served as an army officer from 1948 to 1958. One of the first poets to react against the simplicity propounded by the practitioners of the "First New" movement, Uyar used daring imagery and complicated figures of speech in his poetry. Major poetry collections: Dunyanin En Guzel Arabistani (The Most Beautiful Arabia of the World/1959), Tutunler Islak (The Tobacco Is Wet/1962 - winner of the Yeditepe Poetry Award), Kayayi Delen Incir (The Fig That Split the Rock/1981 - winner of the Necatigil Poetry Award).
