“Very” is the most useless word in the English language and can always come out. More than useless, it is treacherous because it invariably weakens what it is intended to strengthen. For example, would you rather hear the mincing shallowness of “I love you very much” or the heart-slamming intensity of “I love you”?”
“Yeah. Calm down. Two of the most useless words in the English language.”
“I love you. ... they are the three most abused and underused words in the English language.”
“The most beautiful words in the English language are not 'I love you', but 'It's benign'.”
“It is better to lose your pride with someone you love rather than to lose that someone you love with your useless pride.”
“Why do you write?' Because I love words and stories so much. Because I would be grief stricken every day of my life if I couldn't write. Because I'm obsessed and compelled. Because I'd be utterly useless at anything else.”
