“Seeing her, well, it did things I hadn’t been ready to delve into before. Hell, I really didn’t even know at what point I had become ready.Probably happened somewhere between when I thought she was dead and when she wasn’t.”
“Okay. He had a point but it wasn’t like I could tell him anything. I could see me now: Guess what? You ever watch Clash of the Titans or read any Greek fables? Well those gods are real and yeah, I’m sort of a descendant of them. Kind of like the stepchild no one wants to claim. Oh, and I hadn’t even been around mortals until three years ago. Can we still be friends?”
“He immediately started charming my mom until she was nothing but a gooey puddle in the middle of the foyer. He loved her new haircut. She got one?I guessed her hair did look different.Like she’d washed it or something.Daemon told her that the diamond earrings were beautiful. The rug below the steps was really nice. And that leftover scent of mystery dinner—because I still hadn’t figured out what she fed me—smelled divine. He admired nurses worldwide, and by that point,I couldn’t keep my eye rolls to a minimum.Daemon was ridiculous.”
“Ah, i just know. That's my talent, if you were wondering. I just know things." She rolled her eyes, but she was grinning. "What a unique talent""I know. I amaze myself”
“You know, my sister and I can’t understand what Dawson sees in you. You’re just a silly little human.” His arm shot out so fast it was a blur, picked up a strand of her hair. “And you’re really not even that pretty.”Oh…oh, that stung more than it should have. Tears burned her eyes as she fought to keep her voice level. “I guess it’s a good thing, then. A relationship between us would never work.”His eyes narrowed. “And why is that?”“Because I’m allergic to assholes.”
“When I did show up next door, at 6:34, it sounded like World War III had erupted in the house. I’d let myself in since no one answered the damn door.“I can’t believe you ate all the ice cream, Daemon!”I cringed and stopped inside the dining room. There was no way I was going into that kitchen.“I didn’t eat all of it.”“Oh, so it ate itself?” Dee shrieked so loudly I thought I heard the rafters in the ceiling shake. “Did the spoon eat it? Oh wait, I know. The carton ate it.”“Actually, I think the freezer ate it,” Daemon responded dryly.I grinned when I heard what sounded like the empty container hitting what suspiciously sounded like flesh.”
“Don’t ask me to give her up before I even really get to know her … Because you’re not going to like my response.”
