“He disregards my opinions and wishes at every turn, with his neurotic, challenging ways, and now I fear I’m becoming neurotic and challenging as well. He brings out the worst in me, and I know damn well I bring out the worst in him.”
“No, you're not." He sounds very confident. "Ava, you've found out the worst about me and not run a mile. Well, you did, but you came back." He kisses my forehead. "Do you honestly think I'm bothered about my age?”
“No!” I push him away from me. “You’re not manipulating me with your delicious Godliness!”He grins that roguish grin. “You think I’m a God?”I huff, turning back to the mirror. His head is expanding at a rate so fast, I might be forced to jump out the bathroom window before I’m squashed against a wall.”
“He pecks my lips. I knew you were the one the second I laid eyes on you. The one to bring me back to life.‘How did you know?’ He’s talking. I need to extract as much from him as possible. He looks me straight in the eyes. They are bursting with meaning. ‘Because my heart starting beating again.' He whispers.”
“Well, he doesn't fall out of bed and wrap his lips around a bottle of vodka, does he?”
“I knew you were the one the second I laid eyes on you.''The one?''The one to bring me back to life.”
“Don't mess with me, Ava," he says smugly, "You should know by now I always win.”
