“The trick is realize that the shit that falls on you is fertilizer. -Ron Mangravite”
“Because I realized I was falling for another guy, fifty-six.”
“The only trick was never giving more that you were willing to lose.”
“Macon: “It’s true. And if that doesn’t work, use the Jedi Mind Trick. But only if you really have to.”Halley: “The what?”Macon: “The Jedi Mind Trick.” He looked at me. “Didn’t you ever see Star Wars?”
“What does Éloa mean?”He narrowed his gaze, answered her literally. “It’s the name of an angel.”Penelope tilted her head, thinking. “I’ve never heard of him.”“You wouldn’t have.”“Was he a fallen angel?”“She was, yes.” He hesitated, not wanting to tell her the story, but unable to stop himself. “Lucifer tricked her into falling from heaven.”“Tricked her how?”He met her gaze. “She fell in love with him.”Penelope’s eyes widened. “Did he love her?”Like an addict loves his addiction. “The only way he knew how.”She shook her head. “How could he trick her?”“He never told her his name.”
“Love is an excuse to put up with shit that you shouldn't”
“I hate to be a nag, but you have got to read. Like most authors, I run creative writing workshops from time to time, and speak, when invited to writers' circles and at summer schools, and I'm continually amazed at the number of would-be writers who scarcely read. For ideas to germinate and proliferate there has to be fertile ground to sow them in, and for the ground to be fertile it must be mulched with observation, imagination, and other writing.”
