“Stupid Chinese," muttered Bryce, "can't they make anything simple?" "Don't diss the Chinese just because they are smarter than you. It's unbecoming," Caedan said with a laugh. Bryce mimicked his brother in a high-pitched voice. "Don't be an ass, how about that?" he grumbled.”

“Don't get me wrong. She's a good teacher as long as you don't get on her bad side. She absolutely hates my brother Bryce." he said as he continued to walk straight down the hall. He laughed. "She threw a ruler at him once.”

“Siva,” I said and my heart broke for this beautiful man. “You once told me that love is hard, painful, and anything but pleasant.” I laughed, “I feel that with you, Siva. I love you so much it hurts. I didn’t have that with Dev. I loved him, of course, but now… When I look back on our relationship I realize that we were more like best friends. He didn’t make my heart speed up like this,” I said and placed Siva’s hand over my heart. “He didn’t make my toes curl with a look, he didn’t make me love him and hate him at the same time, and he didn’t leave me breathless. “I help up my left hand. The sapphire and diamonds sparkled.“Oh my God,” my mom said and fell out of her chair.“Mom? “Ooh that’s him!” my mom cried jumping up and down.“Why don’t you date him, mom? You seem to really like him,” I smiled.She stopped jumping. “Oh, I couldn’t. “I turned to find him grinning. “You need a shower, I need a shower, let’s save water by taking one together.”“When did you turn into such a conservationist?” I snapped.“Two point two seconds ago,” he said and his white teeth were startling against his caramel colored skin. Siva and Sloane”

“Sloane, I want you to know that…” he swallowed. “That I… care,” he flinched.I nodded my head. He cared. It wasn’t a declaration of love but I was pretty sure it was all I was going to get. It was good enough… for now.Siva”

“I was falling hard, for Siva Kapur, and I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get back up.Sloane”

“I bit my lip. “If what you feel is wrong then what I feel for you is doubly wrong.”“Do two wrongs make a right?” he asked.“No, not usually,” I said.“Not usually,” he repeated. “Does that mean you’re willing to try?”Siva and Sloane”

“Siva asking about my past? Were we going to sing campfire songs and hold hands now? Sloane”

“Devak. Did you love Devak?” he growled at me.“Yeah… yeah I did. We were always happy.”He glared at me. “Then it wasn’t love Sloane. Not really. You may have loved him but you weren’t in love. When you fall in love with somebody you fall… hard and you can’t get back up. You feel sick and breathless. You’re the farthest thing from happy,” he spat. Siva and Sloane”

“Sloane,” he said pulling away when I started to fall out of his arms. “It’s killing me to fight this. I can’t. I don’t want to. Not anymore.”I swayed and his arms steadied me.“Are you okay?” he asked. His lips quirked. “I might have to refrain from kissing you if you’re going to faint.”

“There’s nothing to say. The past is in the past for a reason. You either choose to learn from it or repeat it. I was never one to read a book twice and I won’t do the same with my life.” Siva”

“Sloane,” he said. “You know those stories that little kids read. The ones where the princess always falls in love with the handsome prince despite the bad guy’s effort to thwart it?”“Yeah,” I said wondering where he was going with this. “I’m not the handsome prince. I’m the bad guy.”Siva and Sloane”

“He promptly pulled out a cigarette stuck it between his lips and lit it. I reached over and snagged it from between his lips and put it out.I pointed my index finger at him. “You will not suck on this death stick in my presence,” I huffed. Sloane to Siva”

“Life’s like that though. You always get what you ask for but never in the way you expect. -Sloane”

“A vampire?” He laughed. Upon seeing my face he abruptly stopped. “Oh, you were serious?” he said questioningly.-Michael Lyons”

“Well if that’s the way you feel,” he said climbing onto the window ledge in a crouch.Before I had time to react or say anything he fell from the window and out of my life.”

“He gave me a funny look. “I just came in through the window and you’re asking me if Lucinda knows? That would be a big fat no.” -Caeden”

“The bell over the door dinged signaling a customer.Caeden groaned. “And just when I was going to have my wicked way with you.” -Caeden”

“He pulled away from me and held his hands in the air like he was weighing something. “Keep Sophie safe or let Sophie die. Hmm. I think keep Sophie safe is winning. So, bite me.” -Caeden”

“He smiled. “Things are so much easier when you see it my way.” -Caeden”

“Bryce looked at his mom, “I’m sick of talking to this old coot. Hit me with another present.”She tossed him one, hard. It hit him in the chest. He mock glared at his mom. “You said hit me,” she smiled.-Bryce and Amy”

“Gram chose that moment to walk by my room. I heard her footsteps pause and then she spoke. “If you two keep that up I’ll be a great-grandma. You best stop that now.”-Gram”

“He kissed my cheek. “Don’t worry I’m far from perfect. Ask my mom. I can never remember to put the toilet seat down,” he grinned.-Caeden”
